poke milkweed, Asclepias exaltata
Here's poke milkweed. Its dramatic, swept-back flowers evoke sci-fi or video game stuff - something falling out of the sky to get us! Muehlenberg may have had similar feelings when he named this exaltata. These actually hang out in the woods, The only woodland milkweed, at least in this region. Poke milkweed grows in AL, CT, DE, GA, IA(L), IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI(S), SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, ON, and QC. Hillsdale Co MI, 6/17/12.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
