herb Robert, Geranium robertianum
This geranium is a pretty little thing. Its flowers are about a half inch across. It shows up in woodlands, other spots that are partially shaded, and on shores. So why did I think I might never post this one? It's alternative common name of stinking Bob has very little appeal to me. Other names like death come quickly and squinter-pip don't help. The fresh plants smell like burning tires, so of course it has been used as a medicinal tea. It was hoped to cure toothache and nosebleeds in Europe. Indians here had no use for it. Herb Robert grows in AK, CA, CT, DE, IL, IN(T), MA, MD(E), ME, MI, MN, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI(S), TN, WA, WI, WV, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, on SPM, and across Eurasia. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
