tapertip onion, Allium acuminatum
Onions have been an eye opener for me. I started out appreciating them at the table. You've got to have onions on a burger. Then along came wild leeks. Onions were something you could find in the woods I spent so much time in. And they were part of the Appalachian and indigenous culture. Then, onions have flowers, mostly! Now, anywhere I go, I watch for our 96 species of onions, many of them very beautiful. Tapertip grows in AZ(S), CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY, and BC. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Montrose Co CO, 6/20/13.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
