Yellowwood is a small tree that has become a popular ornamental. They cover themselves with drooping racemes of fragrant white flowers. Up close they share a touch of color and aroma. Yellowood is a rare native occurring in isolated colonies in AL, AR, GA, IL(E), IN(T), KY, MO, MS, NC, OK, TN, and VA, and escaped from cultivation in CT, IA, MA, ME, NY, OH, PA, RI, and ON. I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
