false bindweed, Calystegia silvatica

A morning-glory? I suspect most everyone would have that impression. What does it matter that it has bracts covering the calyx? It's a nice large flower, open in the morning; quite beautiful. A morning glory! Who the heck would want to call it a bindweed? Well. all us compulsive plant namers would. Some even insist that this be called a shortstalk false bindweed. But for our purpose here, its an eye catching image, with a little more subtle color than the usual whatever-you-call-it. Short-stalk (see, sometimes you just have to be clear which plant you're talking about) grows in AL, AR, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WV, and SK.
