yellow avens, Geum aleppicum
Up to now we haven't looked at a typical yellow Geum. Drooping, red, more fanciful ones drew our attention. But most Geum look more like this. Actually, there are an awful lot of flowers in the Geum/Potentilla tribes that look a lot like this. So lets not overlook them. This yellow avens is one of the more common, growing around the temperate Northern Hemisphere. Here it's in AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, MA, MD(E), ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, TN, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, MB, NB, NS, NT, ON, PE, QC, SK, and YT. Gratiot Co MI, 6/30/11.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
