hairy pennyroyal, Hedeoma hispida
Hairy pennyroyal is another of the little ones you have to get down to the ground to see. You'll know it's pennyroyal when you can see the swollen lower part of the calyxes. These flowers are not much over an eighth inch long, and often overlooked.
Apparently only the Dakota found it useful. For them it was a cold remedy, and helped settle upset stomachs. Hairy pennyroyal grows in dry, often sandy areas in AL, AR, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY(T), LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NH, NY(T), OH(T), OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, MB, ON, QC(L), and SK. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
