foxglove beardtongue, Penstemon digitalis

This is one of the most widespread of our many penstemons. But not quite widespread enough for the Ives Fen Preserve crew. This was added to the preserve in one of the areas where farm fields were replanted with natives. Foxglove beardtongue grows in fields in AL, AR, CT, DE, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI(S), SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, MB, NS, ON, and QC.
