eastern woodland sedge, Carex blanda
Sedges are a big part of any wetland story. Well, they would be if they had petals. Lacking those, they don't attract much human attention. They just quietly go about their job of making our water and air better. At Ives Fen Preserve, they work particularly hard. There are 49 species known in the preserve, soon to be 50. There's a patch in the southwest woods that we need a specimen of for confirmation. This one grows almost anywhere in AL, AR, CT , DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, WY, MB, ON, and QC. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
