wild bean, Strophostyles helvola
Is this flower upside down? Sometimes with sprawling and twining plants like this, they seem to lose track. Ordinarily the lower petal here, the banner of pea family flowers, would be up. But on this particular day, this was the best shot. Also called amberique-bean or fuzzy bean, this most often grows near shores in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI(SC), MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, ON, and QC(L). Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
