sticky chickweed, Cerastium glomeratum
Glomeratum because it gloms onto things? It is indeed sticky, and often ends up with little bits of grit and debris hanging on. Does that have an advantage? Does it discourage herbivores? Whatever the reason, it works. This Eurasian now grows around the world. The flowers are about a quarter inch. It grows in weedy spots in AK, AL, AR, CA, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MT, NC, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WA, WV, WY, BC, NF, NS, ON, QC, and YT. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
