poorman's patch, Mentzelia floridana

These inch or a little more flowers are on a bushy plant around four feet tall. Most remarkable are those little hooked hairs on the leaves and stem. Don't touch! They are nature's VELCRO. They just will not let go of any bit of cloth they touch. While the impression is of something you could press over a tear, that's frustrating too. The leaves are far too fragile to hold together. If you do get stuck, you can spend a long time picking them off in tiny little bits. And don't drop them where they can touch again, or you're starting over. But the flowers are very nice. These grow only in FL. Brevard Co FL, 1/27/13.
