climbing fumitory, Adlumia fungosa
Way to go newcomers! As we've spread west across the continent, this species has retreated. Here in Lenawee County, for instance, it was last recorded in 1867. Of course, coincidence doesn't mean causality. Like when I fell off a stool three weeks ago, and caught the flu. But with fumitory I bet there's a connection. We've started looking at poppy family flowers. Is fumitory connected to the poppy family? On that, every other botanist may have a different answer. A lot of this and related asymmetrical flowers have often been separated into the fumitory family. These days the trend seems to be in favor of inclusion. This herbaceous vine grows in CT, DE, IA, IL, IN(X), KY(E), MA(T), MD(T), ME(T), MI(S), MN, NC, NH(T), NJ, NY, OH(T), PA, RI(E), TN(T), VA, VT, WI, WV, BC, MB, NB, NS, ON, and QC(L). Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
