snow trillium, Trillium nivale
You have to see snow trilliums to believe them. Having lived a long life believing nothing else blooms when skunk cabbage does, it just seems like trilliums come later. Later, when other things might keep them company. So when I drove four hours into Ohio to see the snow these blooming, I thought I could see some other stuff too. Not even dandelions were open! Snow trilliums can handle hard nighttime freezes, and continue to mature and bloom in the days between. These occur mostly where the Pleistocene glaciers ended. Is that when the developed their remarkable abilities? Snow trilliums grow in IA, IL, IN, KY(E), MD(E), MI(T), MN, MO, NE, OH, PA(R), SD, VA, WI(T), and WV. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
