rue-anemone, Thalictrum thalictroides

When you think of buttercups you might think of flowers like these rue-anemone, even if they're not yellow. Pretty little things with petals neatly arranged around the business bits in the middle. But the buttercup family is the creativity champ, and we will look at it over the next few fays. Even these were a little bit of a surprise for me. Somehow I got through my first forty years without seeing pink rue-anemones. You might know these as the genus Anemonella, but genetic analysis now has them included in the genus Thalictrum. Linnaeus must have suspected something like that when he bestowed the thalictroides specific name. Rue-anemone is a spring woodland flower in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL(E), GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME(X), MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NH(T), NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI(S), SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, and ON.
