"messy hybrid shrub honeysuckle complex"

What honeysuckle is this? Hard to say. It's in that "messy hybrid shrub honeysuckle complex" described in Michigan Flora.
If you investigate very far, you even find that the Russians interfered with it. One parent is Tartarian, the other Morrow's honeysuckle. From that beginning they keep messing around until there's a bunch of back crosses that continually add to the confusion. The one shown here is an apparent back cross involving extra Morrow genes. The bracts on the ovaries are too long for it to be a simple hybrid. Both Michigan Flora and USDA Plants treat this complex as Lonicera x bella. The range cited by USDA includes CT, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, VA, VT, WA, WI, WY, NB, ON, QC, SK, and they are no doubt invading other places.
