brook lobelia, Lobelia kalmii
Find a higher dryer spot on the shore, or in the fen, and take a seat. Contemplate the brook lobelia. A delicate little thing, hardly a quarter inch long. They pop up here and there, mostly a few at a time. Little blue jewels scattered in the wetlands. Ephemeral in a season, but always back again. Overshadowed by so many grander blossoms. There's something special when you do spot them. Worth a pause, and a few moments of quiet. Brook lobelias grow in CT, IA, ID, IL, IN, MA, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NH(T), NJ, NY, OH, PA(E), SD, VT, WA(E), WI, WV, AB, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, NT, ON, QC, and SK. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
