sand cherry, Prunus pumila
Here's sand cherry at the beach. Pretty much where it always is in Michigan. But in places without beaches (go west), it takes advantage of whatever sand it can find. This is a shrub that won't get much taller than we do. And if it does, it may soon find itself shorter again as the sands shift around its feet. Sand cherries grow in AR(T), CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA(T), ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY(T), OH, OR, PA(R), SD, TN(T), UT, VT, WI, WY, MB, NB, ON, QC, and SK. Oceana Co MI, 5/29/14.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
