hound's-tongue, Cynoglossum officinale
Finally an image of hound's-tongue that I'm not displeased with. Weather, timing, and impatience have always conspired to mess with previous efforts. Then there's human perception. The camera always makes hound's-tongue look brighter than it seems. It's nodding habit apparently makes the flowers seem darker. This is hound's-tongue because of it's smell, which also accounts for its other name, rats and mice. Hound's-tongue came here from Eurasia, and now appears in weedy settings in all states and provinces except AK, FL, HI, LA, MS, OK, TX, LB, NF, NT, NU, and PE. Ingham Co MI, 5/28/19.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
