Virginia waterleaf, Hydrophyllum virginianum
Virginia waterleaf flowers would be more ordinary were it not for those frilly hairs on the filaments. Remember the Doctrine of Signatures? God marked plants with clues to what they were good for? Could this cure baldness? Sadly no. But the younger leaves are marked with light spots like water stain. So it must be good for flux! Runny nose, problems at the other end? Concoct some waterleaf! At least it won't hurt anything. This species is mostly in shade in AL, AR, CT(S), DE, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY(S), MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NH(T), NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, SD, TN(S), VA, VT, WI, WV, MB, ON, and QC. Lenawee Co MI, 5/16/12.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
