queen-of-the-prairie, Filipendula rubra
Queen of all she surveys. These remarkable beauties get up to eight feet tall, with large, very showy flower heads. This species prefers fens, which are a habitat that is relatively few and far between. Because of that sightings are rarer than the imposing stature of this plant might lead us to expect. Queen-of-the-prairie grows in CT, IA(T), IL(E), IN, MA, MD(E), ME, MI(T), MN, MO, MS, NC(E), NH, NJ(E), NY, OH, PA, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NF, NS, ON, and QC. Adams Co IN, 7/1/16.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
