coral honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens

Here is, in so many ways, a better honeysuckle. Coral honeysuckle is native. It clambers and twines over shrubs,or other supports you might provide in your garden. It's certainly beautiful enough to join that parade. What a nice temperate shade of red, sparked by the yellow interior! And it's great for hummingbirds. And it has those interesting united leaves behind the flowers. And while it escapes, it is not at all invasive. It's native range is roughly from the Ohio valley east and south. Other sites represent escapes. Coral honeysuckle has been reported from AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME(E), MI, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WV, ON, and QC.
