huckleberry, Gaylussacia baccata
"You don't know about me, without you have read a book by the name of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, but that ain't no matter." And so Mr. Clemens starts out in making this perhaps the most famous bush on the planet. Between Huckleberry Finn and these delicious berries, is there anyone who hasn't heard of huckleberries? But how many have seen the flowers. Certainly a fit posy for Becky or Widow Douglas. Huck and Mr. Clemens no doubt enjoyed these berries as they traveled in AL, AR, CT, DE, GA, IA(T), IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and SPM. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
