little sweet Betsy, Trillium cuneatum

Little sweet Betsy may be the largest among the trilliums that lack a stem between leaves and the flower. Betsy has become a shade garden species. You might see her dressed in red, maroon, yellow, green, or shades between like this one. Betsy grows in woodlands in AL, GA, IL, KY, MD, MI, MS, NC, PA, SC, TN, and VA. Michigan plants, first found in 1968, are garden escapes. Hidden Lake Gardens, Lenawee Co MI, 4/16/12.

Cornell's Mundy Wildflower Garden has T. cuneatum and T. luteum which were planted there a long time ago even though they are not native to our area. We also get bronze-colored flowers on hybrids.
