brittlestem hempnettle, Lamiaceae, Galeopsis tetrahit
Aha! A pearly everlasting! I need a good shot of that.
So I pulled over and walked back. But what's that there in the ditch? Hempnettle was collected here in Lenawee in 1966. I've been keeping a eye out for it for a long time. In the end I had to go way north, almost to Paradise, to see it. And to discover that the Paradise I read about in Steve Hamilton's novels is a real place. Hempnettle is a Eurasian that has a reputation of following people around, wherever we're growing crops. Wonder why? It is one of the few plants in the mint family with an unpleasant aroma. So far it has turned up in AK, CA, CO, CT, IA, ID, IL, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, TN, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, acroass Canada except fot NT and NU, and on SPM. Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
