Houghton's goldenrod, Solidago houghtonii
Waugoshance Point is a great place to see Houghton's goldenrod. Even with the high lake level, there are a bunch of them with their big heads still above water. The flower heads here are a little over a quarter inch - big for a goldenrod. The high water did provide a very convenient background for this shot. There aren't a lot of places to see Houghton's. It has a very limited distribution close to Great Lakes shores. It occurs in MI(T), NY(E), and ON(T). Federally listed as threatened. Wilderness State Park, Emmet Co MI, 8/11/19.
