Isn't it nice when the fates reward your good behavior? Or at least seem to? Day before yesterday I could have just left that old grill at the curb. Instead I wrestled it into the van and dropped it on the pile at the metal yard. On the way back, near a railroad, there was a boneset not like the others. From the car it looked not quite as flat topped as the common tall boneset. Late boneset? It's only been two days since we saw the tall one. Anyway, the late one has wider toothier leaves on longer petioles, shorter filaments sticking out around the flowers, and the flower-head bracts that are not quite as fuzzy. The reward was partly that this is the first time I've seen this north of Tennessee. It's a rare adventive here. Late boneset grows in open areas in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY(E), OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, and ON. This is the first record of it in Lenawee County, MI, 9/5/16.
