othake, Palafoxia sphacelata
It's fun to get out on early morning rambles when others are still abed. You can get results like this, particularly if you're not a better photographer. Others of my sort will tell me this is too grainy. Since then I've better mastered low light techniques. Finding this always wanted but never seen species so soon in that western trip certainly rewarded my early efforts. Othake grows in openings in CO, KS, NE, NM, OK, and TX. Lincoln Co NE, 6/16/13.

I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
