swamp valerian, Valeriana uliginosa
One should visit fens every chance you get. But especially when the lady-slippers appear. And when you do, swamp valerian will frost that cake. These delightfully fragrant two inch balls dot the landscape. Hardly a fen will be without them here in Michigan. So it is a surprise to discover how many places are concerned with their conservation. That of course is because their habitat is at risk. Swamp valerian grows only in fens, in IL(E), IN(E), MA, ME(S), MI, NH(E), NY(E), OH(X), VT(E), WI(T), NB, ON, and QC(L). Ives Fen Preserve, Lenawee Co MI, 5/28/11.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
