smooth yellow false foxglove, Aureolaria flava
Yellow false foxgloves are partly parasitic. Can you imagine it, with roots spreading invisibly through the soil. Seeking something to fasten onto and suck the life fluids out of? Happy Halloween! Smooth yellow false foxglove grows in open oak woods in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WV, and ON. Sand Creek Preserve, Hillsdale Co MI, 7/26/12.

I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
