eastern sweetshrub, Calycanthus floridus
This sweetshrub image is from Beal Gardens at Michigan State. They do an outstanding job with labels. Except for some of the shrubs. And except for the labels that get stolen. Why rip off plant signs? Anyway, that brings us to one drawback with images from cultivation. You don't know where they're from. We have two VERY similar species of sweetshrub. One from the east coast, and one from the west. Until this posting I presumed this was the eastern one. After research yesterday, I now know what I don't know. So if anyone from MSU is reading, do you know? Eastern sweetshrub grows in AL, CT, DE, FL(E), GA, IL, KY, LA, MA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, and WV. 5/28/19. Sweetshrub family, Calycanthaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
