garden columbine, Aquilegia vulgaris
Garden columbine arrived on the continent with European settlers. It brought with it old names like Granny's nightcap or Granny's bonnet. This columbine occasionally pops up in the wild; this one was growing adjacent to Ives Preserve. In my experience it is not very insistent. Both local spots where it's been have died out. And while the rest of us spread out across the continent, garden columbine mostly settled for areas near the original thirteen. It is a very temperate sort. It has been reported from CT, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VT, WA, WI, WV, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, and QC.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
