Michigan holly, Ilex verticillata
Michigan holly might be called winterberry, black alder, Canada holly or whatever by others, but Michigan holly is good with us. These flowers aren't so much noticed, but the bright red berries get a lot of attention from hungry birds and horticulturalists. Winterberry or not, they don't seem to last too long into that season. Michigan holly grows in wet areas in AL, AR(T), CT, DE, FL, GA, IA(E), IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY(V), OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and on SPM. Hartwick Pines State Park, Crawford Co MI, 6/30/11. Holly family, Aquifoliaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
