early bluegrass, Poa cuspidata
Along the trail at Riley there was a mature blooming grass. Grass flowers in March, on stems already a foot tall? It appears early bluegrass has learned that the woods are a lot more windy in March than they are after leaves appear on trees. It was a little breezy that day, so here we have pollination in motion. It turned out to be impossible to get the dangly little anthers to stop moving. Took a lot of shots hoping to get lucky, and this was the best. Early bluegrass grows in woods in AL, DE, GA, IN(X), KY, LA, MD, NC, NJ, NY(E), OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, and WV. Gladys Riley Golden Star Lily Preserve, Scioto Co OH, 3/30/20. Grass family, Poaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
