Moving along to Chateau Nivale Preserve, we encounter leatherwood. This shrub has tough pliant bark that was used for cordage. The plant was also used to treat a wide variety of ailments. These flowers are about a third of an inch long. Leatherwood grows in woods in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL(E), GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD(T), ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NS, ON, and QC. Adams Co OH, 3/30/20. Daphne family, Thymelaeaceae.

I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
