showy orchis, Galearis spectabilis
We saw showy orchis a couple of times on that day in Ohio. This little native orchid was about four inches tall. It was on an east facing slope in the afternoon. The lighting options and direction of view were limited. Guess it turned into a good image anyway. Showy orchis is a woodland plant in AL, AR, CT, DE, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME(E), MI(T), MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NH(T), NJ, NY(V), OH, OK, PA, RI(E), SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, ON, and QC(L). Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
