Texas lantana, Lantana urticoides
It was a delight to discover native lantanas. The best known species, Lantana camara, is native farther south. Despite its beauty, it has a bad rep. It's gotten itself a noxious weed label by inhibiting the growth of native plants as its spread around the world tropics. This native doesn't have as much color variation, but it's certainly bright enough, and doesn't seem to have the aggressive nature of its relative. It hybridizes with other lantanas, which may account for the disagreement in its range. Some have it just in Texas and adjacent states, others have it across the south in AL, AZ, CA, FL, MA, MS, NC, NM, SC, and TX. Brevard Co FL, 1/27/13. Vervain family, Verbenaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
