fire pink, Silene virginica
Fire! Fire! Back south again yesterday. I've missed yelling fire in an empty forest. Too long since I've seen this old favorite. Particularly too long since I've seen ones that really looked good. Examples I've seen in Michigan just don't seem as robust, even in gardens. It's more like, "Fire? Fire?" The trip went as usual, some terrific new things, some missed. Fire pink grows in woods and borders in AL, AR, DE, FL(E), GA, IA, IL, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI(T), MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI(E), WV, and ON. Chateau Nivale Preserve, Adams CO OH, 5/28/20. Pink family (Which explains why a red flower is called pink), Caryophyllaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
