largeflower valerian, Valeriana pauciflora
Right now in the Appalachian hills you can see largeflowered valerians. It's a woodland species, up to three feet tall, with flowers an inch long. Those flowers may be a little more pink than those shown here. It's probably visited by butterflies, but often is self pollinated. Largeflower valerian grows in AL, IL, IN, KY, MD(E), NC, OH, PA, TN, VA, and WV. Chateau Nivale Preserve, Adams Co OH, 5/27/20. Valerian family, Valerianaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
