blue wild indigo, Baptisia australis
Blue wild indigo is a native wildflower that just had to come into our gardens. These blue spikes on chest high plants are blooming now in Michigan gardens, including mine. They also show up in 'restored' prairies. That's where this one was. They've been at that spot for many years, but don't show any sign of spreading. This species doesn't produce a lot of viable seed because weevils infest the pods. Blue wild indigo grows in AL, AR, CT, GA, IA, IL, IN(T), KS, KY, MA, MD(T), MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH(E), OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, and ON. Planted, Lenawee Co MI, 6/5/20. Bean family, Fabaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
