Short's aster, Symphyotrichum shortii
Short's has flower heads about an inch across, with rays in this pastel blue shade. The more I've seen it, the better it looks. So now it's in my garden. In 2017 we added some to Ives Preserve. It wasn't much of an invasion. They already occur within a couple hundred yards of the north boundary. And anything native added to the old gravel pit on the southwest side seems like progress. Short's aster grows in AL, AR, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN(T), MS, NC, NY, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, and ON. Lenawee Co MI, 10/11/12. Aster family, Asteraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
