downy willow-herb, Epilobium strictum
Downy willow-herb is a plant of wetlands, including bogs and fens. This one was by a swale not far from the shore of Lake Michigan. The column in the left background is a developing pod. When ripe it will split to reveal fuzzy, wind dispersed seeds. The fuzz you can see on the white flower may be from a seed. Flowers can be either white or pink. Downy willow-herb grows in CT, IA, IL(T), IN, MA, MD(E), ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH(T), PA(E), RI, VA, VT, WI, NB, NS, ON, PE, and QC. Charlevois Co MI, 9/8/14. Willowherb family, Onagraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
