There was some marbleseed growing right next to yesterday's French-grass patch. This is a very fuzzy, two to three foot plant. These flowers are as open as they get. The pollen and nectar are concealed by the closed lobes of the corolla. Bumble bees and occasional other husky bugs have to force their way in. Must be good stuff! This species is often included in the genus Lithospermum, in which case it is L. molle. 'Bejariense' means from Bexar. That's Bexar, Texas, now known as San Antonio. Marbleseeed was named for the hardness of its seeds, not for any resemblance to the toys. Marbleseed grows on shores and in openings in AL, AR, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN(E), KS, KY(E), LA, MA, MD(E), MI(X), MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NH, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA(E), SD, TN(E), TX, UT, VA, WI, WV, WY, AB, MB, ON, QC, and SK.
