coastal groundcherry, Physalis angustifolia
If you look up groundcherries in the North American Ethnobotany website, you pretty much get a list of North American Indian nations. The kids used the berries as nibbles, and everyone ate them raw, cooked, or otherwise processed. We can be confident the Seminole and other southern people used this one even though it isn't specifically mentioned. Coastal groundcherry grows near the coasts, most often in sand, in AL, FL, LA, and MS. Collier Co FL, 1/25/13. Nightshade family, Solanaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
