goldenseed spikerush, Eleocharis elliptica
Just to prove that spikerush avoidance is over, here's another. These were little plants, like most of their kind. They are minimalists. No petals, no leaves, just roots, a stem and a flowering/fruiting head. It works! Or at least until Lake Michigan gets a couple of feet higher. These would be under that water now. Near as I can tell these are E. elliptica. Lacking seeds and magnification, It's hard to be sure when the plants are flowering, and there are no seeds. So there's a photographer's rationalization for avoiding spikerushes. But we're not doing that anymore, right? Goldenseed spikerush grows in CT, IA, ID, IL, IN, KY, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA(E), RI, VA, WA, WI, WY, AB, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, SK, and on SPM. Mackinac Co MI, 5/28/17. Sedge family, Cyperaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
