slender yellow-eyed grass, Xyris torta
This was another little yellow flower from the Sibley prairies. They're less than a half inch, on tall bare stalks. Yellow-eyed grasses have little ot no nectar, and are fertilized by pollen eating insects and wind. They also reproduce from axillary buds that become bulbs. Slender yellow-eyes grass grows in damp areas in AL, AR, CT, DE, GA, IA(E), IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN(E), MO, MS, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH(E), OK, PA(T), RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI, and WV. This shot is from another area of ancient lakebed left by the receeding Lake Eria. Lucas Co OH, 8/6/16. Yellow-eyed grass family, Xyridaceae.

I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
