raven-foot sedge, Carex crus-corvi
Raven-foot is a big sedge, over three feet tall. These flowering spikes look kind of messy, and they are less organized than many other sedge species. Many sedges sort their flowers out, with sexes segregated to different spikes, or different parts of spikes. Raven-foot doesn't seem to care, and certainly doesn't care if it is less appeling to human eyes. But it appealed to mine! This sedge hadn't been found in Michigan since 1956 until it turned up at Carol's place. Ravenfoot grows in damp ground in AL, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI(E), MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, OH(T), OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI(T), and ON. Lenawee Co MI, 6/9/13. Sedge family, Cyperaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
