rough blazing star, Liatris scariosa
Went out looking for a knotweed and found a blazing star! Not a bad trade. There is a nice patch of these in an opening on a roadside, not far from the Twin Towers of the Irish Hills. Those towers may have been remarkable when built, but now they have a hard time attracting more than a passing glance. Family lore is that the family stopped there on its first trip out of Ohio. That's Dad's family in the 1920s. Rough blazing star grows in AL, AR, CT(S), DE, GA, IL(T), IN, MA(S), MD, ME(T), MI, MO, NC, NH(E), NJ(E), NY(T), OH, PA, RI(E), SC, TN, VA, WI, and WV. Lenawee Co MI, 8/29/20. Aster family, Asteraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
