coffeeweed, Senna obtusifolia
Also called Java-bean, Chinese senna, or many other names around the world. The uses of all parts of this plant are many. It is very rich in protein and used a variety of ways, including as a meat substitute. It is involved in many herbal remedies, and if nothing else is nourishing if used internally. Coffeeweed is becoming invasive in some areas, including California. It can now be found in AL, AR, CA, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI, and WV. Everglades National Park, Miami-Dade Co FL, 1/26/13. I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
