pineland St. John's-wort, Hypericum suffruticosum
Pineland St. John's-wort is one of a group of plants in Hypericum that have four instead of five petals. They were formerly separated in genus Ascyron. This one is distinctive with two large sepals and two much smaller ones. You can see the tips of two small ones projecting from the bud on the upper left. Pineland grows in AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, and TX. Polk Co FL, 10/20/15. St. John's-wort family, Hypericaceae.

I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
